When you consider the tsunami of new products and their complexion-perfecting promises, you'd think we'd all be spotless and wrinkle-free by now. So what gives? "It's a big battle," says Dendy Engelman. "We are fighting gravity, genetics, and environmental insults." Fortunately, you can thwart or even erase years of aging. Where to begin? Two rules are universal among experts: Use a retinoid nightly (the vitamin A derivatives stimulate collagen, fight wrinkles, and halt acne), and wear sunscreen daily. "The only time you don't need sunscreen is when you need a flashlight to see," insists Beverly Hills dermatologist Harold Lancer. The rest, in large part, depends on your age.
